‘Modern Family’ Season 10 Will Tackle the Death of a Significant Character

September 15, 2018

‘Modern Family’ Season 10 Will Tackle the Death of a Significant Character

Modern Family has been on ABC for 10 seasons, and they’ve brought plenty of laughs over the years, even if the series has lost its touch in recent seasons. With no renewal in place for another season, series creator Steve Levitan has hinted that it might be time for the show to end. But before it does, the Dunphy and Pritchett families will deal with some hard times. Sometime during Modern Family‘s 10th season, a “significant character on the series” will die, and the family will feel the aftermath of that death for several episodes. Entertainment Weekly spoke to Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd (not the one from Back to the Future), and he revealed the shocking development of death coming to the comedy series… [Read More...]

‘Fordlandia’: Get Ready for a Werner Herzog TV Show

Werner Herzog will bring his unique blend of artistry and unbearable misery to television with Fordlandia, a series about Henry Ford’s attempt to recreate small-town America in the heart of the Amazon. Filmmaker Werner Herzog is known the world over, both for his provocative films and documentaries, and for his gloomy-yet-charming personality. He’s a legend. And now he’s bringing his talents to the medium of television. Herzog will work with Hyde Park Entertainment to adapt Greg Grandin’s award-winning book Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford’s Forgotten Jungle City into a TV series. This project sounds fascinating, and not just because of Herzog’s involvement (although that’s a big plus). The book tells a true story… [Read More...]

How ‘Fallout 4’ Turned a Normal Mission Into a Nightmare

How ‘Fallout 4’ Turned a Normal Mission Into a Nightmare

Preston Garvey had sent me on yet another mission to help yet more settlers, and I had begun to believe they were all the same. Go in, kill some bad guys, get out. This time I found myself at the bottom of the Dunwich Borers quarry, looting the left arm of a dead raider’s power armor—the last piece I needed for my own set—when I saw a door tucked away in the side of a cliff. Curiosity drove me to open it, and that’s when the nightmare … [Read More...]

[TIFF Review] ‘The Legend of the Demon Cat’ is an Entertaining Fantasy Mystery

[TIFF Review] ‘The Legend of the Demon Cat’ is an Entertaining Fantasy Mystery

You’d think a movie with the word “demon” in the title would lean a bit more into horror, but while the scares are almost non-existent, but Chen Kaige never lets go of the fantasy and dark elements of Baku Yumemakura’s bestselling novel The Legend of the Demon Cat. The result is an entertaining and heartfelt fantasy mystery that feels part Sherlock Holmes, and part The Woman in Black. There have been two generations of emperors from the … [Read More...]

[TIFF Review] ‘Freaks’ is a Claustrophobic and Twisty Sci-fi Thriller

[TIFF Review] ‘Freaks’ is a Claustrophobic and Twisty Sci-fi Thriller

Going to a film festival can be tricky, because a lack of trailer means you can only rely on short and vague descriptions of films. “An inventive, genre-bending psychological sci-fi thriller” is a wide enough description that the resulting film could go really bad, or it could be like Freaks, which is both a timely social commentary, and a thrilling film about parenting with a little sci-fi touch. We follow Chloe (newcomer Lexy Kolker, who has a … [Read More...]

[TIFF Review] Ozploitation ‘Nekrotronic’ Offers Silly, Albeit Familiar, Horror Comedy

It’s obvious very early on that Nekrotronic is a labour of love. The second film by Australian brothers Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner was introduced to the Midnight Madness crowd as an ode to the (horror) films of their youth and their love of the classics is evident throughout every frame of their ghost hunting horror comedy. The Ozploitation film follows Howard (Ben O’Toole), a put upon sanitation worker who discovers that he is actually a … [Read More...]
